President Duterte made the statement his speech during the 24th National Federation of Motorcycle Clubs of the Philippines Annual Convention in Legazpi City, Albay late Saturday night.
Duterte reiterated that he is trying to fulfill one of his campaign promises which was to weed out corrupt government officials.
“‘Pag sinabi kong (When I say) I am trying, it would be at the expense of government people who are into corruption,” he said.
“Talagang hindi ko talaga tatanggapin yan (I really cannot accept that). The other day I fired two. One undersecretary,” he added, without going into specifics.
President Duterte also addressed the statement of resigned Labor undersecretary Dominador Say that he stepped down due to differences in the matters of contractualization or ‘Endo’.
However, Duterte said that Say should keep his silence if he cannot bring himself to tell the public the truth.
“Kayong napasibat sa gobyerno, meron talagang affidavit ‘yan. ‘Ay hindi kami magkaintindihan sa endo.’ ‘Adre (Those who were kicked out, there is an affidavit of your deeds. And then you say that you resigned because of misunderstandings on endo. My friend), you better shut your mouth or tell the truth,” he said.
According to the President, if Say will insist on his statement, he will be forced to show the affidavit to the media and endorse it to the Office of the Ombudsman.
“Kasi ‘yung affidavit na pinirmahan sa harap ko, bibitawan ‘yan, ibigay ko sa media (Because if you don’t, I will release the affidavit that was signed in front of me. I will give it to the media). Then I would ask the… to endorse it to the Ombudsman,” he added.
MalacaƱang earlier said if Say had not resigned amid talks on labor contractualization, the President would have fired him due to his supposed involvement in corrupt practices.
Last month, President Duterte said that he was set to fire officials under the Executive Branch after saying that he was not anymore satisfied with the performance of his Cabinet members.
“Corruption that the President knows about. Corruption relating to activities of labor recruiters, apparently, and the Department of Labor and Employment,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque earlier said.
Meanwhile, Duterte reminded government workers to respect the public as they are the ones who are paying for their salary.
“Be courteous to your employers kasi sila diyan nagbayad ng sweldo natin (because they are the ones paying for our salary). Do not consider yourself, you know, sit on your table as if you are an official. You are not, actually,” Duterte said, referring to the public.
“We are workers of government and we are mandated to serve the public. Then you have to be courteous and protect the money of the people,” he added.
Absolutely correct ang aming pangulong Duterte. TraBAHADOR KAYO NG GOBYERNO, pasahod kayo ng mga taong nagbabayad ng income tax. Ahahahahahahahaah very very true. O if you do not understand what I just comment all government employees, ahahahahahaha the best is shoot yourself in the head and dead.
