A British supporter of President Duterte tried to reach Pope Francis after he was informed that Senator Bam Aquino, one of the members of the opposition asked the leader of the Catholic Church to pray for the victims of the drug war.
According to Bam Aquino, he told Pope Francis to pray for the poor Filipinos victimized by the war on drugs of the current administration.
To counter the move of Aquino, a Pinoy at Heart Malcolm Conlan who supported Duterte wrote an open letter to Pope Francis to convince him that he’s just being used by the Filipino politicians to gather support from the Catholics.
Read his open letter below:
Pope Francis, please pray for those politicians in the Philippines who seem to be using religion as an excuse to criticise the democratically elected President of the Republic of the Philippines, Rodrigo Roa Duterte.Believe it or not, even an Australian nun was caught being involved in a political rally in the Philippines which is actually breaking the law. I am sure you would expect all your workers to be law abiding. Then even worse, in one of your churches in the Philippines, the friends and family of Bam were actually launching a political campaign in the house of God.Please pray for them,Thanks, God bless you,
Malcolm Conlan
Other netizens also criticized Bam for not asking the Pope to pray for the people who died of Dengvaxia, Cotabato and Hacienda Luisita Massacre.
