Members of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) are waiting outside the Senate building. Around 40 members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) also arrived at the Senate vicinity.
PNP-CIDG refused to disclose why they’re at the Senate, but apparently, they’re tasked to arrest Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
Photos also showed that a member of CIDG entered the office of Senate Sergeant at Arms Jose Balajadia.
Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri said that they would not allow the authorities to arrest Trillanes inside the Senate building.
“There will be no arrest in Senate premises,” Zubiri told reporters in an ambush interview.
Meanwhile, the Senate minority bloc held an emergency meeting to discuss the incoming arrest of Senator Trillanes.
During an interview, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said that he would not escape or resist arrest. He also said that his lawyers are doing everything to prove that the proclamation of the President against him is illegal.
