As the most awaited pageant competition nears, netizens could not help but compare Philippines’ Miss Universe bet Rachel Peters to Mariel De Leon who was recently defeated in the 2017 Miss International.
Unlike De Leon who is criticizing President Rodrigo Duterte and his administration, Peters expressed that the Filipino people should trust and support the government under Duterte’s leadership.
In a press conference in May 2017, the media asked Peters on his reaction to the appointment of Mocha Uson as Assistant Secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).
Peters said that she believed that the people should support the President’s decision and stand behind him in every step of the way.
“Well, she hasn’t started yet. And so, I believe everyone should be given a chance. We should stand behind President Duterte, You cannot judge a book by its cover, (That is) something my parents taught me that is still in my mind,” Peters said.
“We should trust in our President and trust that it’s he (who) knows what is best for our country.” she added.
Because of this statement, Peters gained the support of many netizens who are now cheering her for the said competition.
Some also could not help but compare Peters to De Leon who has been very vocal of her criticisms against the Duterte administration through her social media account.
It could be recalled that De Leon’s name made a noise in social media after she criticized the appointment of Mocha Uson as Assistant Secretary of the PCOO.
Miss Universe 2017 will be held in the United States and the pageant will be telecast on November 26 where our very own Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach will seat as one of the judges.
