Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction-Philippines launched their 20,600-TEU class container vessel that is 100% proudly Philippine made. It was built in the company’s 326-hectare Subic shipyard, and is nestled in the coastal and mountainous areas of Redondo Peninsula.
The gigantic ship has a length of 400 meters, a width of 59 meters and a depth of 33 meters. Its deck is as big as four football fields. It can transport up to 20,950 units of 40-foot shipping container which, when lined up one after another, would reach 12.5 kilometers long. It is considered one of the largest container vessels ever built in the world today.
The ship is a product of combined Korean production and design and Filipino craftmanship.
Jo Yoo-Hoan, managing director and naval architect at Hanjin Heavy couldn’t help praise the skill and dedication that Filipino ship makers.
He was quoted by GMA saying, “We’re very proud of it, with the Philippine workers and the staff, very proud of them. They are so organized, so kind, and so skillful. Wonderful, you know, workers. Our relationship between Korea and Philippines is fantastic.”
The historic ship was sent out into the open seas from December 29, 2017 to January 2, 2018 to undergo a series of performance tests and technical inspections. It will soon be delivered to its proud owner French shipping company CMA CGM.
