New York University alumna and prominent social media personality Krizette Laureta Chu, spoke about how President Rodrigo Roa Duterte may be misunderstood by his critics.
To the small minded or to those who are used to conventional, LP-style politics, Duterte seems like a madman, a liar, impulsive,” Chu stated.

She cited one of President Duterte's speeches where he said that Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Joma Sison is very ill. The chief executive drew flak when Sison responded that he is not sick and he is unsure as to why Duterte said that.

Critics were quick to call out Duterte as a liar but Chu defends that as President he has an access to confidential information.
Duterte doesn't care what you think of him. He has achieved what he wanted: To spread the word among the NPA factions and the group that their leader is dying. For what purpose, I cannot claim to know,” Chu stated.

She also clarified that while Pres. Duterte's current moves may confuse some people, it takes time before the benefits of his strategies are realized and she contrasted it with playing a chess.
A great chess player doesn't just make his move as a reaction to his opponent's move. A great chess player has patience, and has seen the game through to the very end. He has long-range vision, and does not react on a per move basis.” She added.

Many of Duterte's actions and words may not make sense now. He is very willing to look like a fool to achieve his end goal.

To the small minded or to those who are used to conventional, LP-style politics, Duterte seems like a madman, a liar, impulsive.

Take for example, his pronouncement that Joma Sison is sick and needs to come home. He said he is concerned and would pay for Joma's hospitalization. Joma retorted that he was well, and he didnt know where Duterte got that info that he had a bone marrow disease.

Duterte's critics ripped into him, saying he was a liar. Duterte is the freaking President and has access to classified info, but they insist that he, not Joma, is lying.

Duterte doesn't care what you think of him. He has achieved what he wanted: To spread the word among the NPA factions and the group that their leader is dying. For what purpose, I cannot claim to know.

Every move in Duterte's arsenal of moves is well calculated, which is why we are often anxious and impatient as to why things take long. But a great chess player doesn't just make his move as a reaction to his opponent's move. A great chess player has patience, and has seen the game through to the very end. He has long-range vision, and does not react on a per move basis.

When we were invited to Malacanang to talk with the President--still one of the highlights of my life so far--I asked him because I couldn't help it, "Sir, why are you so strategic? Why are you so good?"
He shrugs, "Hindi, hindi."

I said, "No but I really want to know, is it true that your bible is The Art of War?" (Many of Duterte's moves--"appear weak when strong, appear strong when weak" are very classic Sun Tzu)

He shrugs, "hindi, hindi naman."

I pressed on, "So what's your favorite book? It really is The Art of War, isn't it?"

He cups his face in his hand, Duterte style (Sass tells me she's figured that it's his 'thinking, strategizing' pose, na pag nag iisip siya, he does that) and Mr. President, bless his soul, tells me, "Harold Robbins."

The room erupts in laughter. Harold Robbins is author of "trashy" (but delicious) novels with lots of sexy scenes and drama. Good, mindless reading with lots of potential for teenage boys to find "interesting" scenes.

Oh well, did I really expect a master strategist to give his secrets away?

Someday, when the dust has settled, you will appreciate everything Duterte is doing for this country.
