A female overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was detained in the middle east for years will finally be back home after the kind gesture of a Saudi man. A man named Abdulaziz Khamees showed generosity by offering to pay the penalty fee required to send the OFW home.
Based on a report we’ve gathered from GMA News, the OFW named Junevie San Juan was detained in a cell in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia since her arrest way back in 2013.
It was October 9, 2013, when Junevie arrived in Jeddah to work as a dental assistant. However, her dreams were crushed when local authorities arrested her for illegal drugs. From then on, it soon started a downward spiral that would not work out toward’s Junevie’s favors in the end.
After the investigation, the female OFW was sentenced to three years in jail. Despite serving the sentence, Junevie proclaimed her innocence and insisted that she was a victim of a large syndicate ring that operates in the Philippines and Saudi Arabia.
Three years after her sentence, the Filipina’s family was downcast after discovering that she needs to pay the penalty of 100,000 Saudi Riyals or approximately PHP 1.3 million in order to be repatriated.
Fortunately, a Saudi man offered to pay the penalty fee because he believed that San Juan is innocent. Speaking to GMA News in the presence of Consul RJ Sumague of the Philippine Consulate, the Saudi man promised to help the OFW:
