Not even Marcos, well entrenched in Malacanang for many years, could cow students of the University of the Philippines.— Kiko Pangilinan (@kikopangilinan) February 2, 2018
“Not even Marcos, well entrenched in Malacanang for many years, could cow students of the University of the Philippines.[Kahit na si Marcos na pinakamatagal na umupo sa Malacanang, hindi nagawang takutin ang mga mag-aaral ng Unibersidad ng Pilipinas.]” Pangilinan said in his tweet.

During the martial law period, many student from U.P were allegedly kidnapped and tortured by the Marcos government, however it didn’t stop the activists from demonstrating rally against the ‘dictatorship’ of the former President.
Three decades after the people power revolution, U.P students still continued their advocacy in criticizing the government and they using several ways to express their condemnation like walking out of their classes.
This kind of protest was criticized by President Rodrigo Duterte itself and threatened the activists that he would kick them out of U.P to replace them with bright Lumads who are known for their problem in education access.
“Etong mga U.P students na ito na laging nag wo-walkout, kanina nag walkout nanaman sila. Okay, doon sa mga ayaw pumasok sa eskwela, umalis kayo diyan dahil ipapalit ko sa inyo ang mga bright lumads. Tulungan ko silang makapag enroll diyan sa U.P. Madaming Filipino ang gusto ng magandang edukasyon,” President Duterte said during the indigenous people’s summit in Davao City.
However, several organizations in University of the Philippines said that they are not afraid of Duterte’s threat and they would organize more ‘walk out’ protest against the government.
