Fr. Robert Reyes expressed his opinion on the recent fight of Manny Pacquiao against Lucas Matthysse last Sunday the 15th of July. While most of the country celebrates the winning strike thrown by Pacquiao to Matthysse, the running priest shared an insight that most Catholics apparently forgot that day.

Religious Obligation

In his column at Bulgar online website, Fr. Reyes made an eye-opener to people about the supposed religious obligation of a Christian. According to the priest and a social activist, Saturdays or Sundays are meant for attending church and it is a part of a responsibility in knowing the Lord and the Holy Spirit.

Pacquiao’s Recent Fight

The popular priest noticed that the country and even the whole world stopped when the fight came in our screens. Thinking deeper on the situation, Fr. Reyes shared his realization on who are the ones getting benefits on such much-awaited event.
Fr. Reyes enumerated that the two boxers and the promoters get most of the benefits, financially even all throughout the event. Moreover, it is the cable companies, bars, and the restaurants that offered the ”pay-per-view” before the telecast reach the local networks. It is the prominent people and some in the government who gambles millions of money just for their personal bet.

In addition to that, Fr. Reyes reminds the people not to forget those political persons who fly to Malaysia just to watch the fight live.
However, despite Pacquiao’s fight instill economical effects, it does not save the Republic from the various crisis it is facing today- most in disclosing the truth, justice, pride, and peace for the country.

Calling Out The People

Thinking that the people have forgotten the Sabbath and the personal obligation of each one to the creator, Fr. Reyes challenges the people to bring back the Sabbath Day and turn to the Lord, the one who gives fair justice, peace, and freedom.
