Abear Wilbert, an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who works in China as an Engineer died after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. His death will be remembered by millions of Chinese in Taizhou City, East China’s Jiangsu Province because he’s known as the first foreigner to donate his organs in the said country.

Mr. Wilbert was rushed to Taizhou City People’s hospital after he collapsed and went into a deep comatose along an expressway together with his wife, Mrs. Wang.

Mrs. Wang called for help and the authorities quickly responded to save Wilbert’s life, however, it’s already too late, the OFW has been declared brain dead when he arrived at the hospital.

Before he died, Wilbert asked his wife to donate his healthy body organs to other people. Around 6 o’clock, Wang decided to donate the kidneys, a pair of corneas, the liver and heart of her husband, which will benefit six Chinese patients who’re suffering in different ailments.

“This not only helps my husband to fulfill his wish but also allows his life to continue so that my husband will leave love forever in the country he loves.” Mrs. Wang told the reporters.

Because of this heroism, the medical staff of Taizhou City People’s Hospital paid their utter respect to Mr. Wilbert and vowed before they performed the operation that would remove the donated body parts of the OFW.

On July 17, at 11 PM, the family of Wilbert made a final farewell and the medical staff performed the operation.

Several news reports saying that the medical staffs are so impressed by the selfless act of Wilbert. Wilber’s mother also said that she’s proud of what her son’s decision, saying that he chose to save the lives of other people even at the end.

Blogger RJ ‘Thinking Pinoy’ Nieto posted the story on his FB page.

A colleague of Mr. Wilbert during the time when he was working in Cebu commented to the post of Nieto, saying that she was inspired by the heroism committed by her former workmate.

However, a netizen negatively reacted in the story, questioning why the hospital staff needs to take a photo before they start the operation. But, TP quickly replied to Abulencia’s comment, explaining that the photo was intended to show to the family of Mr. Wilbert that the Chinese people are respecting the OFW.
